Dolphin Emulator Apk v2606-364 Download [Android/PC/Mac/Linux]
Updated version
Updated version
The Dolphin emulator APK is the official Android build of Dolphin, the GameCube and Wii emulator that has been in development since 2003. It's free, open source under the GPL, and it ships from two places the project controls: Google Play and the download page on dolphin-emu.org. Everything else claiming to host it is a mirror, and a mirror is a signature you can't check.
The short version: install it from Google Play if you want automatic updates, or grab the APK from the official download page if you want to pick your version. The app contains no games. You supply those from discs you own.
What the Dolphin emulator APK actually is
Dolphin runs GameCube and Wii software on hardware that was never meant to run it, by translating PowerPC instructions into ARM64 in real time. As of release 2606 it also runs Triforce arcade hardware, the Sega, Namco and Nintendo cabinet platform built on GameCube internals, plus the Game Boy Player.
The Android app and the desktop app share one codebase. Same emulation core, same settings names, same save format. What differs is the interface and what the hardware can carry.
Two channels exist. Releases land every few months and are the stable pick. Development builds land several times a day, carry the newest fixes, and get less testing. The Play Store listing tracks releases; the download page carries both.
Features that matter on a phone
Dolphin's feature list is long, so here's the part that changes how a game plays.
Graphics backends. Vulkan and OpenGL ES on Android, Vulkan, D3D11, D3D12 and OpenGL on Windows, Metal on macOS. Dolphin's own performance guide recommends Vulkan on Android where the driver behaves, and notes that Adreno driver quality varies by device.
Custom GPU drivers. Dolphin integrates libadrenotools, so Adreno users can load a replacement Vulkan driver instead of the one the phone shipped with. Mesa's Turnip driver fixed a stack of Adreno rendering bugs for Dolphin users when this landed.
Internal resolution scaling. Native GameCube output is 480p. Dolphin renders the same frame at a multiple of that, so 2x is 720p and 3x is 1080p on a phone panel that can show it.
Ubershaders. Shader compilation stutter is the hitch you get when a game shows an effect for the first time and the emulator has to compile a shader on the spot. Ubershaders pre-empt that with a general-purpose shader while the specialised one compiles in the background.
Per-game settings. Every graphics and core option can be overridden for one title, so a heavy Wii game can run at 1x while a GameCube 2D game sits at 3x.
Controls. A resizable touch overlay, full Bluetooth and USB gamepad mapping, and phone motion sensors mapped to Wii Remote pointing and waggle.
Save states and standard saves. Snapshot the machine anywhere, or use real memory card and Wii NAND saves that move between your phone and your PC.
RetroAchievements. Achievement support arrived for GameCube on Android in release 2512 and now covers Wii titles as well. You log in with a RetroAchievements account.
The rest. Netplay for online multiplayer, AR and Gecko cheat codes, custom texture packs, Graphics Mods, Riivolution game mods, RVZ compression for smaller disc dumps, widescreen hacks, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering and post-processing shaders.
Hardware requirements for Dolphin on Android
Dolphin's FAQ lists Android 7.0 and up, 64-bit only. That's the floor, not the target.
The performance guide asks for a Snapdragon 700-series chip or newer with two or more big cores, and a GPU supporting OpenGL ES 3.2 and Vulkan 1.1. An Adreno 540 or equivalent with 4 GB of RAM is the recommended tier. High-end Mali parts can hit playable frame rates; other vendors aren't recommended.
GameCube emulation is the more forgiving half. Wii games that lean on the MMU, the chip that maps memory addresses, are the ones that punish weak silicon.
Android TV is a separate story. The only devices the project lists as compatible are the Nvidia Shield TV models.
Installing the Dolphin emulator APK on Android
Before the steps: do not install a Dolphin APK from a mirror or an aggregator. Builds from unofficial sources can carry a different signing key, which means Android refuses the update path later and you get to uninstall and lose your config. Use Play or dolphin-emu.org.
- Check the device first. Settings, About phone. You want Android 7.0 or later and a 64-bit chip. Snapdragon 720G and up is a reasonable starting point for GameCube.
- Install from Google Play. Open the Dolphin Emulator listing and install. Updates arrive automatically.
- Or sideload the official APK. On the download page, take the Android build from the Releases section, not Development, unless you want daily builds. Android will ask permission to install from your browser once.
- Open the app and set the games folder. Dolphin uses Android's storage picker. Point it at the folder holding your own dumps. You should see cover art and titles populate the grid.
- Set the backend. Settings, Graphics, Backend. Choose Vulkan. If a game shows black textures or crashes on load, switch that game to OpenGL in its per-game settings.
- Map controls. Settings, Controls for a gamepad, or edit the touch overlay layout from the in-game menu.
Installing Dolphin on Windows
Windows 10 version 1903 or later, 64-bit. Releases require the 64-bit Visual C++ redistributable for Visual Studio 2022, which is the single most common reason a fresh install refuses to launch.
- Download the Windows release from dolphin-emu.org/download. An ARM64 build exists for Snapdragon Windows machines.
- Install the 64-bit VC++ 2022 redistributable if you don't already have it.
- Extract the archive anywhere, or run the installer. Dolphin runs portable if you drop a file named portable.txt next to the executable.
- Launch Dolphin, add your games folder, then set Graphics, Backend to Vulkan or D3D12 depending on your GPU.
Installing Dolphin on macOS
macOS 11 Big Sur or later. The build is a universal binary, so Apple Silicon runs it natively without Rosetta.
- Download the macOS release from the official download page.
- Open the DMG and drag Dolphin into Applications.
- Launch it. Grant Input Monitoring under System Settings, Privacy and Security if your controller does nothing.
- Set the backend to Metal, which is the Mac path and the one that gets tuned.
Installing Dolphin on Linux
The project ships official Flatpaks. Add the release repository, then install:
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists --user dolphin https://flatpak.dolphin-emu.org/releases.flatpakrepo
flatpak install dolphin org.DolphinEmu.dolphin-emu
For development builds, swap in https://flatpak.dolphin-emu.org/dev.flatpakrepo and the dolphin-dev remote name. There's also a Flathub package, which is community-maintained rather than official. Steam Deck users can install the Flatpak from Desktop Mode and add Dolphin to the library as a non-Steam game.
Bluetooth passthrough for real Wii Remotes needs a udev rule installed by hand, since a Flatpak can't add one.
Troubleshooting
The app installs but games run at half speed. Drop internal resolution to 1x, confirm Vulkan is active, and check the per-game settings for that title. Wii games with heavy MMU use are the usual culprits.
Black screen or missing textures on Adreno. Try a custom Turnip driver, or fall back to OpenGL for that game.
Stutter every time a new effect appears. Enable Ubershaders in Hybrid mode.
Dolphin won't install on your device. Dolphin blocks installation on hardware that fails its requirements. A 32-bit device can't run it, and there's no build that changes that.
Controller works on desktop, not on Android. Remap it in Settings, Controls. Android gamepad button IDs don't always match the desktop profile.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Dolphin emulator APK safe to install? The build from Google Play and the one on dolphin-emu.org are signed by the project, and the full source sits in the public repository. Copies from mirrors are unverifiable, which is the whole argument against them.
Is Dolphin free? Yes. It's open source under the GPL, with no paid tier, no ads and no premium unlock.
Does the APK come with games? No. Dolphin ships as an emulator only. You provide dumps of discs you own.
Is emulation legal? Running an emulator is lawful in most countries. Downloading game images you don't own is not. That distinction is the one that matters.
Play Store build or website APK? Play for automatic updates and less friction. The website when you want a specific release, an older version, or a development build.
Which phones run Wii games well? Snapdragon 8-series chips and recent handhelds handle most of the library. Mid-range Adreno parts manage GameCube far better than Wii.
Can save files move between phone and PC? Yes. Memory card files, Wii NAND saves and save states use the same formats across platforms.
Does Dolphin work on Android TV? Only on the Nvidia Shield TV models the project lists. Other Android TV boxes aren't supported.
Version compatibility
Written against Dolphin release 2606a, published 11 August 2026, which patched several security bugs and a Wii save state failure. Development builds run ahead of that in the 2606-x series. Settings names in older releases may differ.
The call
If you're on a Snapdragon 8-series phone or a modern handheld, the Dolphin emulator APK from Google Play is the version to install, and Vulkan at 2x is the setting to start from. If you're on anything below a Snapdragon 700-series chip, install it for GameCube and keep expectations low on Wii. Either way, the games have to come from your own discs, and that part is on you.
